What is retargeting and how does it work?
The fact that a visitor leaves your website does not really mean that they are not interested in what you’re selling. Often it just means that they are not ready to buy at the moment. Maybe they’re waiting for the next payday. Or maybe they are just busy right now. There could be a number of reasons.
Research shows that on average it takes 9.5 touches before a visitor makes the decision to buy. Our own data shows that 97% of first-time visitors leave websites without making a purchase. It means that of 100 visitors, 97 will leave and never come back.
There are a few ways to reach out to visitors who leave your website without making a purchase and persuade them to come back. Retargeting is one of the most effective of them.
How does retargeting work?
Imagine you’re the owner of an apparel store. A visitor comes to your website, views a few products, maybe a t-shirt and jeans, then they leave without making a purchase. Afterward, wherever they go on the Internet they will see your ad reminding them of the products they were previously interested in.
The ad will be branded with your logo and colors so it will be very easy for them to recognize you. Once they click your ad and land on your website, they are very likely to make a purchase.
Where will the ads be displayed?
We cooperate with the largest third-party networks like Google DoubleClick AdExchange and OpenX, enabling us to access a large number of websites worldwide. This makes it possible for Rontar to return and convert as many of your website’s visitors as possible.
Important to know
There are two very important things to understand about retargeting:
- With retargeting you show ads to your past visitors. So it’s very important to already have some traffic on your website before starting a retargeting campaign. If you have zero traffic on your website, retargeting simply won’t work.
- With retargeting you target your past visitors with ads featuring the exact products they were interested in. This is the only effective way if you want to make sales. That’s why with retargeting you can’t choose which products to show to your past visitors via ads.
In conclusion
Retargeting is one of the best tools to convert visitors who did not convert on their first visit. On average with retargeting it’s possible to add up to 5-15% in conversions to what you have now. You will also be able to build brand awareness and become top-of-mind among your visitors.
